Central Open Regionals Write-up

Madcow's 2008 regionals campaign began in pool play with a game against XMN. Ben "Biz" Sage got the team started right, scoring two early goals as Cow grabbed a few quick breaks for an early lead. Whenever the offense took the field it was able to score quickly, and the defense continued to make life difficult for XMN, leading to a 7-3 advantage at half. The second half was largely more of the same, with the O converting efficiently and the D pressuring every throw. Neil "the best player in Japan" Pallaver and Paul "I almost cut two of my fingers off the other day" Zaleski both made their presence felt on the D line, with Pallaver getting a couple D’s (not to mention a lay-out D that was called back on a fairly weak foul) and both players cutting effectively once XMN turned it over. Though the O got a bit sloppy down the stretch and gave a break back, the D continued to accumulate breaks. When XMN staved off game point by holding on O, the Madcow offense came out and worked the disc down the field, with Jimmy “Jimma” Hughes finding Phil "Robocop" Roebuck in the endzone with a hammer to end the game. Final score: Madcow 13, XMN 7.

September 6-7 Madcow traveled to Naperville, IL for Chicago Heavyweight Championships.

Day 1: Saturday

Game 1- 8:45

Madcow's first game was against the #3 seed in our pool, Phoenix, who was only ranked one spot below us in the overall seeding.  The fields were a little wet but the weather was perfect for ultimate. We came out strong on offense and then scored 4 breaks in a row to go up 5-0. We continued to play well and took half 8-2. After half, Phoenix scored on offense and then proceeded to get their first break of the game. Phoenix scored a few more breaks to bring the game to 10-6. With a few key offensive players missing, others had to step in to fill their roles and there seemed to be some communication errors. We finished out the game strong on defense and the final score was Madcow 13-Phoenix 9.

Madcow Goes to Chicago Heavyweights

by C Hero :: September 5, 2008 11:09 AM

This weekend Madcow travels to Plainfield, IL to battle regional rivals at the annual Chicago Heavyweights Championships tournament. Last year Madcow had an impressive showing, losing in the semis to eventual champion GOAT. This year we hope to improve on that performance, despite the absence of several key players.

For scheduling and seeding, visit the UPA site. You may follow along with the action by checking our Twitter feed, which we will attempt to periodically update with our awesomeness from the tournament.
